About Us

Mission Statement

Destination Lake City is a not-for-ptofit community organization (501-c3) dedicated to Making Lake City a vibrant place to live, work, play and visit.

Destination Lake City (DLC) proactively collects, evaluates and prioritizes ideas of interest and value to the greater Lake City community and then serves as a catalyst for supporting, developing and implementing strategies that advance the ideas that promote DLC's vision

History

Destination Lake City (DLC) began as a group of like minded community members during the early summer of 2014. It evolved into a membership group of people who share their love, enthusiasm and commitment for Lake City and the City’s growth and development. We became a 501(c)3 in early 2015 and adopted the name ‘Destination Lake City’ at that time. Although DLC has limited financial resources, we are proud of our members’ active, energetic and creative approach to identifying opportunities and seeking solutions through practical and realistic planning and implementation.

Volunteer Service

We work with community members who share our enthusiasm for these four goals:

  • Protect Lake City’s natural resources and beauty.
  • Help establish a vibrant downtown and waterfront.
  • Work to promote Lake City while maintaining our small city charm.
  • Embrace and support bold new initiatives.

Join DLC to be involved in projects like these!

DLC played a major role in the 100th year celebration of the invention of water skiing on the shores of Lake Pepin, as well as the 50th year celebration of Water Ski Days weekend (2022).

DLC initiated the creation and dedication of the historical monument and tribute to Ralph Samuelson, the inventor of water skiing. The unveiling of this statue took place on July 2, 2022 at Ohuta Park, where he first water skied on July 2, 1922.

Lake City was chosen to showcase the 2024 Governor's Fishing Opener. DLC hosted the launch ceremony which highlighted the importance of the fishing tradition in MN and it's importance to the state's outdoor and tourism economy

"A Splash Of Color" Mural. DLC was the fiduciary agent for the Lake City Mural Committee in 2023.

Lake City now has a dog park! DLC is providing the fundraising support through our 501-c3 for the Friends of the Lake City Dog Park

DLC has been working to develop a proposal to expand and enhance signs within our community to better direct visitors and people passing through our city to some of our notable landmarks.

DLC supported the new highway infrastructure initiative completed in the Fall of 2021.

DLC supports and organizes an annual cleaning and beautification of our water front and beaches.

DLC supports continued improvement of Lake City’s downtown, parks and waterfront. We also encourage support of all of our local businesses.

DLC works with elected officials (City, County, District, State) to secure desirable developments for Lake City.

A 501(c)3 Non-Profit

  • DLC is a fully operational 501(c)3 Non-Profit Volunteer Organization, eligible for grant money and able to raise funds for projects.

  • DLC also acts as a fiscal agent for young and new organizations in Lake City that seek 501(c)3 tax free status.

Current and Future Projects

  • Encourage the development of an interpretive center that would include the history of Lake City, and a satellite Water Ski Hall of Fame in collaboration with the USA Water Ski and Wake Sports Foundation (headquartered in Florida).
  • We are working with the city to improve our Wayfairing and Wayfinding signage.
  • We are the 501(c)3 for the Dog Park committee and the Mississippi Bluffland Trail committee.
  • We are exploring the viability of the refurbishment of The Wave monument.
